Later, in Minnesota in a small local theatre she was cast as a character in an unrealized documentary film about beauty contests called Drop Dead Gorgeous. Then, in Los Angeles, she pursued acting as a profession following her film debut, in which she portrayed an uneasy but fun contestant. The husband of her Tony Curtis was her partner from June 1950 until September 1992. Her children included, Kelly Curtis as well as Jamie Lee Curtis. Leigh was caught by actress Norma shearer and signed a contract to join MGM in the 1940s. Through the years that followed, she appeared in many well-known films like Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho (1960), and Living It Up by Martin and Lewis (a 1954 film).
